There's certainly no shame (groan) in landing on the Anti- label to debut your latest album. Philadelphia's Dr. Dog have arrived with news of a new release--this one titled "shame, shame", only holding back any preview tracks due to....lack of Facebook fans? The group is closing in on 8,000 Facebook fans and has promised not to debut their first track until the members of their page reach up to 20,000 fans.
The new album which will be the group's catalogue debut on the Anti- label (home to Tom Waits, DeVotchka, Spoon, Neko Case, and other such luminaries) is set to hit stores on April 6th, 2010 and will be the group's sixth album and the follow-up to "Fate", which was released in the Summer of 2008.
While MMJ's Jim James stopped in to record vocals with DD's Toby Leaman and band on the title track of the album, the group hit another adventure as they worked out of their studio for the first time with Rob Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith, Powderfinger, Kevin Devine). And from the advance description of songs, it looks as though the band is keeping each note a personal one; an ode to the Philly that they know and love. The one that's filled with stories that can envelop their friends, fans, and family back home. Aw, go on now...!
Dr. Dog will also hit the road beginning in late January (starting January 27, 2010) in support and anticipation of the new album. Although touring dates for Philadelphia and surrounding don't begin until mid-March, if you don't mind making the 4-6 hr drives (road trip!) you can catch them beginning in Troy NY, Burlington VT, Providence RI, Syracuse NY or State College PA in January/February.
