For this live concert with singer Katy Davidson (Wolf Colonel) as her long-standing moniker Dear Nora, at Café du Nord for this year's San Francisco Pop Festival, we still get goosebumps and gasp over the raw emotion of her vocals combined with the draw that Katy's beautiful songs command. We're not sure how rare this live recording is, but this show at Café du Nord along with The Botticellis, Birds of California, Cheap Red and Eux Autres in San Francisco was one of Katy's last few live performances (for the year, at least) in 2009.
You can hear the influence of early Elvis Costello, and especially Billy Bragg through her strumming technique and singing, and we won't pinpoint it--but if you enjoy songs like "Between the Wars", you'll get our drift and want to hear this wonderful recording for yourself. Earlier this year, Magic Marker was working with Katy who has since released a double-disc available through them, filled with early 7" record releases and rare singles as well as out-of-print recordings. It's bittersweet when you get to the very last song where Katy sings "Fargo" along with the crowd, but you'll thank us for the smile.
