Our favorite rockers, Carbon/Silicon, are back with a new album for free download through their official web site. This brand new full-length, which first became available on Saturday the 14th of November, 2009, follows the release of the group's successful 2007 first physical release "The Last Post" which the group came through the East Coast in support of two years ago. All of Carbon/Silicon’s previous releases were made available through the band’s official web site and online forum only, previous to The Last Post. The full online release for their latest album comes with cover art available for download as well--Mick, Tony and Co. miss no expert step in this process.
Lead singer, guitarist, Mick Jones (The Clash, Big Audio Dynamite, etc.) and fellow vocal, and guitarist Tony James (Generation X, Sigue Sigue Sputnik) first came together in 2002 over a mutual interest in making music that would be shared with the World for free online. Carbon/Silicon’s very first track as a group, “MPFree” became the inaugural release as the band’s first peer to peer song, which not only acted as their first single but also gave the duo a chance to state their views and open up discussion regarding file sharing and peer to peer album downloads.
Over the years, Mick and Tony have successfully promoted their music in this way, growing their fan base while promoting and utilizing their individual and unique take on artistic freedom. Other bands that have grown successful by using this tact include NIN, Radiohead, and others. While we can look toward what has become the beginning of a technologically different sounding future when it comes to file sharing and peer to peer play, the possibility of this opening the door for artists who would like to gain mass popularity in this type of format is a gap that is still widening.
The Carbon Bubble contains 12 album tracks, and the group's three previous online only studio albums "A.T.O.M.", "The Western Front", and "The Crack Up Suite" have been taken offline for the time being. Get these tracks and more, at carbonsiliconinc.com
