Beginning soon, Girl About Town will be taking on some Guest Authors from the music world. We are happy to announce that one of our newest, and first guests, will be the lovely Holly Miranda. Miranda is well-known for her beautifully-emotive, striking vocals on stage (through her band the Jealous Girlfriends); she's a gal who can make a crowd wonder what's going to be next, always what's next.... As part of Holly's solo work, she'll be on tour beginning today (hitting Chicago, heading towards Toronto, and then back to these parts: to Hoboken, New Jersey: Maxwell's of course) for her Sleep On Fire EP supporting exciting new group, The Antlers (also based in Brooklyn).
The songs that Dave Sitek from TV On the Radio helped produce for the Sleep On Fire EP, feel like they should be on celluloid; a sort of lost film-strip looped short accompanied by Miranda's eerie, caramel vocals, and dark, brooding beats. Her delivery at times feels inspired by Cohen; you can just nearly hear her own 'So Long Marianne' in the wisps of her vocals and in the sound collage created for these songs.
Holly is keen to tell the world about her experiences on her own blog(s), and Girl About Town will be happy to have her contribute here as well; keep an eye out--and make sure you check in every so often for updates from Holly. Who knows what she'll be up to next....see, that's just what we said!
Catch both Holly Miranda and The Antlers live in Philadelphia at The Rotunda at UPenn (4014 Walnut Street) on October 1st, 2009 where we'll sure she'll be rocking every floorboard in the place.
