It was a darkly lit, and David Lynch-esque set led by Glasgow's Angela McCluskey who opened for Glasvegas in NYC for their sold out show at Mercury Lounge. Her performance with a supporting band brought Mercury Lounge's small caberet-like atmosphere to a silent halt with the first song. Covering Bowie to Leonard Cohen, even including a special dedication to Glasvegas' applauding lead singer James, McCluskey left a hushed audience applauding explosively after her band's last song of their set. Joining her on stage was husband Paul Cantalon (who recently completed soundtrack work on "W", Oliver Stone's latest masterpiece about George Bush), guitarist Scott McCloud (from Girls Against Boys--who incidentally will be playing the Khyber on October 12th with a similar lineup in a brand new band THAT YOU SHOULD NOT MISS who are calling themselves Paramount Styles), a trumpeter from the NYC Philharmonic who literally showed up after playing in the orchestra in a tuxedo, and a drummer who we missed the name of but was equally as interesting and rounded out their small but amazing group.
