Brothers and Sisters hail from Austin, Texas and with the initial success of touring and their s/t LP released in 2005 and '06, the band quickly became well-known for their country-tinged and folk rock balladiering ways. They are inextricably linked to the tightly-knit Austin music scene, most notably through counterparts and friends in And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead and Okkervil River. Both members Will and Lily Courtney (who are literally brother and sister) have performed as part of the backing and supporting band for And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, also counting ...Trail of Dead's member Courtney Keely as an occasional contributing member in their band over the years. The band is on their way to doing a full late summer/fall tour for the release of their exciting new full-length, entitled Fortunately, which is set to be released in stores across the US on August 19th! And with the fantastic track "You're Gone" leading the call with its unmistakably early-era R.E.M. sound, the band is off and running to a great start.

NYC's Phonograph are another overwhelmingly great addition to the night, and with their intelligent songwriting and fluid guitar playing, their melodies turn electric as they bring a larger-than-life sound to the kind of Americana one might expect from the LA scene, or from a band like, say, Wilco. As a current five-piece, including: Matthew Welsh (keys, guitar, sound and soul), John Davis (bass, mono synth), Dave Burnett (Drums), Abe Seiferth (Guitar) and Phil Sterk (pedal steel, percussion, guitars), it's also important to note that the band has worked and collaborated with other luminary artists such as Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu, Bob Mould, Frank Black, Book of Knots, Lucinda Williams)
Steve Goulding (The Waco Brothers, Mekons, Elvis Costello, Laura Cantrell)
Joel Hamilton (Shiner, Book of Knots, Players Club)
Guy Licata (Bill Laswell) Jared Samuel (James Hunter, Sonny Oaks) and will be releasing a new album in the coming year which you can also become involved with tonight if you live close to NYC. The band is performing live this evening at Union Pool in NY and will be recording tonight's gig as an inclusion to their forthcoming album release.

Impossible Hair are a new fast-favorite based out of Baltimore, and will start the night off right with their furious surf and art-rock inspired brand of power-pop/indie rock. You only need one listen to their latest track "X-Ray Man" to get an idea of where the band get their influences from, most definitely channeling bands such as Guided by Voices among others. They perform as a four-piece that includes Roman Kuebler of Baltimore faves The Oranges Band and The Slow Jets, along with local players Joe Ryan, Jim Glass and Sammy Ponzar.
