September 10th at 8pm will see the return of Mercury Rev's music to New York via Brooklyn contemporary artist space, The Stone for an all ages show. The band has been abroad, and will return for a night of audio experimentation to highlight the release of their forthcoming album titled, Snowflake Midnight, available with a free download companion piece on the release date, entitled Strange Attractor (both to be released via Rev's label Yep Roc on September 30th). No stranger to experimentation, Foetus' frontman Thirlwell, who will curate September, is the perfect person to present them. Mercury Rev, who will be playing songs and improvising during the evenings two performances (one at 8pm and one at 10pm), will be accompanied by Feedtank "a collective of digital artists using new technologies to create playful interactive spectacles and light-based musical interfaces." Artist Alex Chechile is also featured and will be "using a home-built electroencephalograph brainwave machine and hacked electrocardiograph heart monitor producing tones and music directly from the minds of Mercury Rev." This is both crazy and brilliant, right? The band, being hooked up to a modified heart monitor and brainwave machine that will be creating music directly from their brains (this is sounding very Robert Fripp) while they play. Are they creating a monster? We guess the only way to find out is to watch, and listen, on the night of the show! Not to be missed if you can make it out early enough, because we're guessing tickets may go fast at only $15 for adults, and $5 for students and children 13-19 (free for children 12 and under)! Available on the night of the event only! Catch Mercury Rev later that month also, when they return for the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival, curated by My Bloody Valentine this year. Further fall dates to be announced...stay tuned!
