Locals Pattern Is Movement (brothers from another mother; singer/keyboardist Andrew Thiboldeaux, and drummer Chris Ward) played a bombastic, and seriously full-throttle set to a pleased home-crowd, bashing out their fast-paced off-pattern songs including selections from their recent release All Together. We heard it through the grapevine that the band were hoping to share equipment with the headliners and it was a no-go, so they set up stage left instead so as not to disturb the layout on stage. Kudos to them for pulling off a fantastic floor-show to a packed crowd, regardless!
Katie & Jules of The Ting-Tings, photos by SIAB Photo
The more we watch young Katie from headliner The Ting-Tings and see her jumping and grabbing at her microphone and guitar as if she were "the most likely to" turn out to be a rock star, the easier it becomes to compare her to other past and current female rock icons such as Debbie Harry, Joan Jett or even Chan Marshall. The girl is fierce on stage, and even when her guitar goes out mid-set she is the first to battle through it. pointing "You! Fix this!". And there was a moment, and you had to be there, where her shorts fell down. She was jumping around, and they just fell to about her knees before she could swiftly inch them up again. Even mid-song shorts-falling can't stop the main event, and Katie was back on track. A cracking duo to catch live, Full of spit and spirit, The Ting-Tings London fashion and sensibilities come through loud and clear, their quirky, electronic and looped beats giving their songs an even broader stamp live than on CD. Not to be missed. Catch them live for their show this Sunday at McCarren Park Pool in NYC at 2pm playing with MGMT and Black Moth Super Rainbow before they're gone again!
