Eli Reed at The M Room, Philadelphia - 2/14/08

Make your night a soulful one, by heading out for tonight's surefire special Valentine's Day performance hosted by HeyDay Entertainment over at The M Room featuring performer, Eli "Paperboy" Reed and his band The True Loves. Growing up surrounded by a father's old gospel, blues, and soul record collection has its advantages, and was surely a contributing factor for the start of young Eli Reed's career. Reed's love of music prompted him into learning guitar, piano, and harmonica. And at 18, Reed made a move to the Mississippi that would change his life, helping him discover and uncover the rich history of the Delta Blues first-hand.
Reed has had a lot of living under his belt in only a short-period of time, already having been a SXSW-featured act, who is being touted as the male-version of Amy Winehouse and/or Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings. This band of 20-somethings are young and full of pomp. And while noting the fact that Reed's so young and not playing the punk or rock his peers may be into, all the while still touring with bands who are (Eli Reed & The True Loves open dates for mainstream pop-punks, Say Anything, coming up), “I think my songs take of a lot of different influences into account,” Reed says. “I just don't see that there's that much of a difference between us and any other rock band out there, except that our songs are better." Serving up a mixture of sweat-drenched soul, in the line of Al Green and Otis Redding, is his business, and this young 20s singer sure has some manly soul chops to fill!
